You’re dreaming of working in the entertainment industry. But you have doubts. Are you too young? Too old? Live too far away? You can come up with a million potential stumbling blocks to your career. But is there a reason that you — you personally — can’t make it in Hollywood? Well, believe it or not, there is a simple answer (even if it isn’t an easy one) – and we give you that answer today.
Making it in Hollywood? Possible for You?
We received a question from writer/producer/director Mike Sobola. Like a lot of filmmakers and producers who reach out to us, Mike wonders about his particular situation, and if it will stop him from achieving success.
Dear Joke & Biagio,
I’m an old guy who has been doing this on and off for a while: Writing/Producing, development, EP’ing–all at various levels. It’s been a few years since I seriously developed and pitched shows and the landscape has changed drastically.
As someone in my 50’s who’s trying to “break back in”, is age a barrier? Your podcasts are spot-on and full of useful information-which I am taking to heart, but I wonder if my age will be a hindrance if I actually sell a series? (Let’s assume I am willing and able to put in whatever work is necessary and that stamina is not an issue).
Thanks for considering my question and I appreciate the opportunity you’re providing by “pulling back the curtain”.
Great question, Mike! Many, many people have similar apprehensions.
